The third mistake is tracking only outcomes, not process. Most people only record whether tasks are complete, ignoring critical variables like "when it was finished," "how long it took," and "what my energy state was at the time." This approach keeps the review stuck at the "statistics" level and prevents it from reaching a true "diagnostic" function.
The fourth mistake is failing to create action links. They do a beautiful review on Sunday, list a bunch of problems, but never translate those insights into "specific adjustments to make next week." As a result, they repeat the same mistakes the following week, and the review devolves into a useless form of psychological comfort.
Why These Settings Don't Work

The problem with tracking only outcomes, not process, is that "outcomes are outcomes, not causes." Say you only completed 60% of your tasks this week. Looking at the number alone, you only know "I didn't do well enough," but you can't tell why. Maybe your time blocks were poorly set up, maybe your peak energy hours were swallowed up by trivial tasks, or maybe a certain project was severely underestimated. A review without process data is like reading a thermometer but never asking about the symptoms.
Finally, a review without action links is the most dangerous mistake. It creates the false satisfaction of "I've already reflected on it," but that satisfaction is hollow. My Specific Approach

Step 3: Diagnose, don't just count. After entering the data, I don't rush to conclusions. Instead, I ask myself three questions: Which blockers this week showed up more than once? (If peak-energy hours were consumed by low-value tasks, next week's allocation must change.) Compared to last week, is my completion rate trending up or down — and what might be the reason? Step 4: Produce "at most three adjustments for next week." This is the most critical step. How Effective Is It

An even deeper shift is "the speed at which blockers disappear." Without a structured review, the same type of blocker tends to repeat across different time blocks three or four times before anyone notices and addresses it. After adopting this process, most blockers are flagged the first or second time they appear, get pushed into the "Next Week's Experiments" list, and disappear roughly 60% faster.
The improvement in the energy management dimension is even more intuitive. Once you can see data like "Tuesday afternoon focus averages only 4.2, and that entire window was spent on administrative work," reallocating your time next week almost happens automatically. After tracking for more than two months, most users develop a kind of "data intuition" — when scheduling time, the brain automatically factors in energy distribution, rather than relying solely on task priority.
Of course, this process isn't perfect. Its prerequisite is that you're willing to spend 3–5 minutes per day logging tracking data, rather than backfilling it all in one sitting on Sunday. Intermittent data entry reduces review accuracy, and that's this method's biggest vulnerability.
